About the Speaker
Dr Giuseppe Lombardo is a well-known Italian magistrate who holds the position of Deputy Public Prosecutor (Procuratore Aggiunto della Repubblica) at the Court of Reggio Calabria, working specifically within the District Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA - Direzione Distrettuale Antimafia). He is widely known for his commitment and investigations into Calabrian organized crime, particularly for highlighting the internationalization of the 'ndrangheta and its links with other mafias and hidden powers. He frequently participates in public debates and conferences to discuss the threat of organized crime and the need for effective countermeasures, emphasizing the economic power and infiltration of the 'ndrangheta into the social and economic fabric. He has recently been working on the impact of AI on organized crime.
About the Moderator
Prof. John Dickie (Professor of Modern Italian at UCL, London) is an historian of organised crime in Italy who has published more than 10 books on this subject. John does a lot of public engagement and impact work, ranging from getting involved with anti-mafia groups, to writing and presenting TV programmes, to commercial consultancies, and hosting events organised by major Italian food brands.
This event will also feature interventions from the Italian Embassy, the Italian Consulate, and the Italian Cultural Institute of London (Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Londra).
